Keeping balance: The spring equinox
Artist: Michael Hiep
Today, March 20th, witches, pagans and earth-kin celebrate the turning of the wheel of the year, as this day, March 20th, marks spring Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere and autumnal equinox in the Southern Hemisphere. While we may say it's a day of balance, with daytime and nighttime sharing equal hours of light and darkness, indeed the equinoxes are when many feel the most out of balance. You might feel particularly clumsy, forgetful, that old cough might have come back, you might twist your ankle. Our equilibrium may feel off until our body's rhythm syncs with this planetary adjustment. So pay attention and be as present as you can in this tidal shift.
Nature gives us this equinox with a full moon as an opportunity to shed the dross of winter, and with it any lingering grief and irritation as we step into the Astrological New Year, now with the Sun in Aries. The hopeful, optimistic, fiery nature of Aries is also a good signal to take care of your gallbladder and liver. Eating spring bitter greens such as dandelion, chickweed, yellowodock and minor's lettuce will help our body shed any stagnancy from the past season and help us meet Spring energy with enthusiasm, vision, and fresh energy. The temptation to slip into old habits might be amplified in this seasonal turning, so do your best to bring awareness to this part of your life while still stepping forward into the promise of spring. Keep your eye on the prize.
